Elatar, son of Sulatar, was born in the Vale of Morthrond, in the land of Gondor. The family were of minor nobility with merchantile interests operating from the port of Dol Amroth. His father was one of the few traders who ventured the seas to the north, trading with the dwarves of the Ered Luin and the scattered settlements of men along the coast.
